Wire EDM & Water Jet

Due to the ongoing working requirements of machining with close tolerances and hardened materials, Wire EDM is the only way to hold form and tolerance without work hardening or deforming a delicate part.

Wire EDM is a method to cut conductive material with a thin wire. Wire diameters range from .004" - .012" although small and larger diameters are available. There is no physical contact with the wire and the part. Rather, the wire is charged to a voltage very rapidly. It's the electrical charge or spark that is actually cutting the material.

Most Wire EDM equipment can independently move on (4) axis to generate taper cuts. This process is mainly used in cutting die or extrusion molds. Wire EDM can be accurate to +/- .0001" with no burrs because there is no actual cutting force against the material.

Water Jet

G&Z has also added the use of Water Jet technology to its operations. This process takes ordinary tap water and pressurizes it to 60,000 psi and forces it through a very small hole. Mix the water with garnet abrasive and you have a very thin stream of water traveling very fast that will rapidly erode most materials. Water Jet technology can cut just about any material. The most popular material is aluminum, because it's relatively soft and cuts quickly. Examples of other materials are: Steel, Stainless Steel, Titanium, Brass, Bronze, Glass, Ceramic Tile, Marble and Granite.
